The Cape Fear Colts will head out on the road to take on the Jack Britt Buccaneers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Cape Fear focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Wednesday.
While it was all tied up 18-18 at halftime, Cape Fear was not quite Fairmont's equal in the second half on Wednesday. They took a 45-32 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Golden Tornadoes. While losing is never fun, Cape Fear can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 409th, while Fairmont is ranked 131st).
Mehakai Coleman put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored seven points along with ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Rico McDonald, who scored five points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, it was a hard-fought match, but Jack Britt had to settle for a 34-32 defeat against Seventy-First on Tuesday. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Jack Britt in their matchups with Seventy-First: they've now lost six in a row.
Cape Fear has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-12 record this season. As for Jack Britt, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-8.
Cape Fear and Jack Britt were neck-and-neck when the teams last played back in January, but Cape Fear came up empty-handed after a 44-43 defeat. Can Cape Fear avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
