Bethel Park scored a stunning upset when it knocked off Upper St. Clair, 24-17. At the time, the Panthers were ranked 15th in the state, while the Black Hawks were 106th.
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Upper St. Clair, who took down 15th ranked Upper St. Clair, 24-17.
Mt. Lebanon's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Tyler Roth threw for 141 and three touchdowns and Troy Apke had 69 yards receiving. On the ground Tim Briercheck chipped in 95 yards. Mike Briercheck helped Mt. Lebanon's passing attack out by catching five balls for 30 yards.
The Blue Devils' Roth and Apke have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading WPIAL AAAA Southeastern in both passing and receiving yards. Roth has thrown for 1477 yards this season, while Apke, a 6-foot-2 receiver, has 32 catches for 712 yards. Pete Coughlin from Jim Render's team leads the league in rushing with 353 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Penn Hills takes on Mt. Lebanon. The Indians are currently in sixth, while Mike Melynk's team is in second.
The Blue Devils extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Peters Township, 42-28. The victory was the sixth in a row for Mt. Lebanon.
