The Heritage Academy Gateway Heroes were the 64-42 winner over the Empower College Prep Wolf when they last played one another on January 12th, but their luck changed this time around. Heritage Academy Gateway ended up on the wrong side of a rough 68-48 walloping at the hands of Empower College Prep on Monday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Heritage Academy Gateway came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 43rd, while Empower College Prep is ranked 128th).
Heritage Academy Gateway's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cayleb Couch, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Talon Lemieux, who scored six points along with two blocks.
This is the second loss in a row for Heritage Academy Gateway and nudges their season record down to 10-3. As for Empower College Prep, their victory bumped their record up to 8-4.
Heritage Academy Gateway will head out on the road to take on El Dorado at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. El Dorado will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak alive. Empower College Prep will take on Summit at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Summit has insisted on making their lastthree contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 0-3 during that stretch of close contests.
