It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Welch Wildcats can now relate to. They were outmatched by Webbers Falls at home and fell 64-14. Welch's loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Welch's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Gage O?neal, who rushed for 130 yards and a touchdown. O?neal hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for four straight games. Mason Clinton was another key contributor, rushing for 86 yards on only 12 carries.
Maddux Shelby was his usual excellent self, rushing for 271 yards and five touchdowns on only nine carries, while also throwing for 112 yards and two touchdowns while completing 100% of his passes. Shelby hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for six straight games. Another player making a difference was Aiden Turley, who rushed for 64 yards and a touchdown.
Welch's loss dropped their record down to 8-3. As for Webbers Falls, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-2.
Welch does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Webbers Falls is on the road again on Friday and play against Weleetka at 7:00 p.m. on November 17th. Weleetka is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
