The Carson Cougars will venture away from home to take on the Northwest Cabarrus Trojans at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Carson took a eight-run loss the last time they faced off against Lake Norman Charter, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Cougars came out on top in a nail-biter against the Knights on Thursday, sneaking past 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Cougars have posted since April 4, 2024.
Caylee Snow spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Alyssa Benner, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Emma Woodlief was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Wednesday as neither Northwest Cabarrus nor Lake Norman Charter made it on the board until the sixth inning. The Trojans walked away with a 6-2 win over the Knights. The victory continues a trend for the Trojans in their matchups with the Knights: they've now won five in a row.
Northwest Cabarrus also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Haylee Ellis gave up two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up nine Ks.
At the plate, Tatum Krolak was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Kortlyn Ballard, who went 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Carson is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-13 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Northwest Cabarrus, the victory got them back to even at 9-9.
Carson suffered a grim 20-4 defeat to Northwest Cabarrus in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
