The Emporia Spartans won the last time they faced the Hayden Wildcats, and things went their way on Tuesday too. Emporia blew past Hayden 50-24. Given Emporia's advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 62nd, while Hayden is ranked 217th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Emporia was led to victory by Nolan Jacob and River Peters. Jacob scored 15 points along with two steals, while Peters scored 17 points along with seven rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Jacob has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Sheldon Stewart, who scored seven points along with nine assists and three steals.
Emporia is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. As for Hayden, they are on a 11-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-12.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Emporia will challenge Topeka at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Emporia focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Tuesday. As for Hayden, they will head out on the road to square off against Washburn Rural at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hayden is coming into the matchup with three straight losses on the road, meaning Washburn Rural will have to defend against a team hungry for a win.
