Washburn hasn't had much luck against Hodgdon recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Beavers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Hawks at 4:00 p.m. Washburn is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Washburn turned things around against Ashland on Friday. They put the hurt on the Hornets with a sharp 11-1 win. The Beavers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Washburn let Miles Tate and Tommy King run wild. Tate went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple, while King got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Tate also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Dumont, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Fort Fairfield hit Hodgdon with a six-run sixth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Hawks lost 14-3 to the Tigers.
Hodgdon saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Finn Gardiner, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI. Gardiner is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.
Hodgdon now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Washburn, their victory bumped their record up to 2-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Washburn has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Hodgdon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Washburn couldn't quite finish off Hodgdon when the teams last played last Tuesday and fell 12-10. Will the Beavers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
