Football Game Preview: Lone Peak Knights vs. Corner Canyon Chargers

The Lone Peak Knights will head out on the road to square off against the Corner Canyon Chargers at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Lone Peak comes in on three and Corner Canyon on six.

Lone Peak is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They managed a 13-7 victory over Skyridge.

Meanwhile, Corner Canyon faced Mountain Ridge in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Chargers breezed past the Sentinels to the tune of 59-20. The Chargers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by 25 points or more this season.

Corner Canyon's win came from a few key players Lone Peak will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Helaman Casuga, who threw for 360 yards and three TDs while completing 80.6% of his passes, and also rushed for 41 yards and one touchdown. Those 360 passing yards gave him a new career-high. Weston Briggs was another key player, gaining 171 total yards and three touchdowns.

Corner Canyon was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 204 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 180 rushing yards in five consecutive contests.

Corner Canyon didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Jaoquin Rodriguez.

Lone Peak's record now sits at 8-4. As for Corner Canyon, their record is now 11-1.

Lone Peak took their win against Corner Canyon in their previous matchup back in September by a conclusive 42-21 score. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Briggs, who rushed for 136 yards and one score on only 13 carries. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will the Knights still be able to contain Briggs? There's only one way to find out.
