4A Region 2 recap Oct. 3, 2012
Frank Moody of St. James ran for the longest rushing play in 4A Region 2 this season against Trinity Presbyterian last week. Moody ran for 84 yards on the play and finished with 166 on the day as his team fell to the Wildcats.
Beauregard suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after a 35-20 loss to Smiths Station. The Hornets had been ranked 21st, but fell to 46 following the defeat.
Beauregard's dynamic duo of David Winslet and Trey Collins proved tough for the Panthers to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Winslet threw for 131 yards and one touchdown and Collins had 77 yards receiving. Zach Walls helped Beauregard's passing attack out by catching three balls for 34 yards.
Alex Stroud made the biggest impact on defense this week as Alabama Christian Academy defeated Montgomery Catholic. The 5-foot-8 senior recorded one fumble.
C.J. Duncan provided a threat through the air and on the ground as St. James fell to Trinity Presbyterian. He completed seven passes for 116 yards and also ran for 162 yards. Duncan's favorite target this week was Jalen Harris, who caught two passes for 59 yards.
Smitty Grider's team's Winslet and Nathan Langley have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Winslet has thrown for 783 yards this season, while Langley, a 5-foot-9 receiver, has 11 catches for 307 yards. Duncan from Jimmy Perry's team leads the league in rushing with 475 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Tallassee takes on Ashford. The Tigers are in first place, while the Yellowjackets are in fifth place.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Trojans take on Charles Henderson. St. James has allowed 59 points this season, while the Trojans have given up 82. The Trojans allowed 31 points last week as they lost to Randy Ragsdale's team.
The Eagles moved up to 252 from 290 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 4A Region 2. Alabama Christian Academy climbed the ranks as a result of a 40-14 win over the Knights.
