Sierra Foothill League recap November 13, 2013
Del Oro extended the longest winning streak in Sierra Foothill League this week by beating Rocklin, 14-13. The win marks seventh in a row for the the Golden Eagles.
Del Oro was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after topping the Thunder. Casey Taylor's team came in at 25 in the state poll after placing at number 30 last week.
Josh Neal threw for 108 yards and 4 touchdowns. He went 9-17 with 0 interceptions.
Cameron Smith made the biggest impact on defense this week as Granite Bay bested Nevada Union. The 6-foot-3 junior forced 1 fumble and recorded 2 fumbles.
Kyle Downie provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Roseville beat Woodcreek. He completed 12 passes for 175 yards and 2 touchdowns and also ran for 163 yards. Downie's favorite target this week was Jonathan Lopez, who caught 7 passes for 131 yards.
Neal put up the best numbers in passing as the Grizzlies defeated the Miners. Neal's favorite target this week was Dylan Keeney, who caught 8 passes for 76 yards.
5-foot-10 quarterback Neal of Granite Bay is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1,953. He has also thrown 25 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Malcolm Thomas. The Woodcreek star has 44 catches for 877 yards.
Skip Albano's team's Neal is within 47 passing yards of surpassing 2,000 on the season coming into this week's game against Tokay.
Nevada Union fell to the Grizzlies 49-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Mo Nieves was a bright spot for Dennis Houlihan's team, as he ran for 58 yards in the defeat.
