Basketball Game Preview: Whitharral Panthers vs. Amherst Bulldogs

Whitharral has gone 9-1 against Amherst recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Whitharral Panthers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Amherst Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Whitharral has seven straight wins, Amherst has seven straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

It was a proper cat-fight when Whitharral challenged Wellman-Union on Friday. Whitharral blew past Wellman-Union 79-25. The Panthers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 games by 22 points or more this season.

Whitharral got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Hudson Dobrovolny out in front who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Dobrovolny a new career-high in blocks (two). Nathaniel Sansom was another key player, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 16 boards.

Whitharral smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Amherst played a tough matchup on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against Anton, falling 54-28. Amherst was down 44-18 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Whitharral is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 42.4 points. As for Amherst, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-8.

Everything came up roses for Whitharral against Amherst in their previous meeting on January 10th, as the team secured a 68-26 win. Does Whitharral have another victory up their sleeve, or will Amherst turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
