Gibsonburg is 0-10 against Calvert since January of 2021 but things could change on Thursday. The Gibsonburg Golden Bears will welcome the Calvert Senecas at 7:00 p.m. Gibsonburg knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five contests -- so hopefully Calvert likes a good challenge.
Last Friday, Gibsonburg really took it to Danbury for the full four quarters, racking up a 76-49 victory. The Golden Bears have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 24 points or more this season.

Gibsonburg found their leader in sophomore Reece Walby, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 12 boards. That's the most rebounds Walby has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Camden Mooney, who went 5 for 12 on his way to 12 points and five steals.
Gibsonburg smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in eight consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Calvert beat Anna 50-44 on Sunday. Given the Senecas' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 177th, while the Rockets are ranked 367th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Calvert's win came from a few key players Gibsonburg will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Logan Ritzler, who posted ten points and seven assists. Gavin Wagner was another key player, going 7 of 10 en route to 16 points.
Calvert has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.8 points per game. As for Gibsonburg, their win bumped their record up to 9-4.
Gibsonburg was dealt a bruising 65-34 defeat at the hands of Calvert when the teams last played back in December of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Wagner, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 19 boards. Now that Gibsonburg knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
