After having lost a blowout in their previous game against West Rowan, the Concord Spiders were happy to have found some success on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 54-51 win over South Rowan. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Concord has posted against South Rowan since December 1, 2015.
Concord's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Myajah Nix led the charge by dropping a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. Nix is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for three games straight. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylin Williams, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
South Rowan lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Kynlee Dextraze, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds. Dabrianna Pharr was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Concord's victory bumped their record up to 8-12. As for South Rowan, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-17.
Concord will be playing in front of their home fans against Central Cabarrus at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Central Cabarrus focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Tuesday. As for South Rowan, they will head out on the road to challenge Lake Norman Charter at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Lake Norman Charter is coming into the game with five straight defeats at home, meaning South Rowan will have to defend against a squad hungry for a win.
