The Lexington Catholic Knights will face off against the Central Hardin Bruins at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Lexington Catholic is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
Lexington Catholic was handed a 11-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Citizens Christian Academy 3-1.
Will Mischel looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched.
At the plate, Lexington Catholic's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Tyler Lusardi, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Central Hardin earned a 12-7 win over North Oldham on Saturday.
Chase Higdon tossed a big game, tossing 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four).
On the hitting side, Devin Hubbard was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3. Central Hardin is undefeated when Hubbard posts two or more runs, but 4-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Briley Whelan, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Central Hardin has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Lexington Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 9-4-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Lexington Catholic has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Central Hardin struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Lexington Catholic's way against Central Hardin when the teams last played back in April of 2018, as Lexington Catholic made off with an 8-1 victory. Do the Knights have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bruins turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
