The James Island Trojans came tearing into Saturday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They enjoyed a cozy 44-26 victory over Clinton.
Andrea Duncan was her usual excellent self, scoring 21 points along with six rebounds and six steals. That makes it 15 consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of James Island's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alaina Graf, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
When it comes to explaining why Clinton lost, one person who can't be blamed is Bryanna Belton. Despite the final result, she scored 15 points along with seven rebounds. Belton is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Mylayja Thompson was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds and four steals.
James Island is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season. As for Clinton, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-5.
James Island will stay at home for another game and welcome West Ashley at 7:00 p.m. on January 5th. West Ashley will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 108th, while James Island is ranked 21st). Clinton is on the road again on Wednesday and play against Newberry at 6:00 p.m. on January 3rd.
