The Statesboro Blue Devils posted their closest win yet this season on Tuesday. They skirted past Coffee 49-47. Given Statesboro's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 56th, while Coffee is ranked 237th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Statesboro's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Camdyn Wilkerson led the charge by scoring eight points along with 12 rebounds. Kamron (kam) Mikell was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
When it comes to explaining why Coffee lost, one person who can't be blamed is Marquavious Bussey. Despite the final result, he scored 20 points along with two steals. That was a full 42.6% of Coffee's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Junitho Benson, who scored ten points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Statesboro is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season. As for Coffee, their loss dropped their record down to 9-11.
Statesboro will head out on the road to challenge Swainsboro at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Coffee, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Ware County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
