The St. Helens Lions will head out on the road to face off against the Seaside Seagulls at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
St. Helens put the finishing touches on their third blowout victory of the season on Friday. They blew past Milwaukie/Milwaukie Academy of the Arts, posting a 47-6 victory at home. The win was just what St. Helens needed coming off of a 47-14 loss in their prior match.
Aaron Liebelt was the offensive standout of the game as he threw for 157 yards and five touchdowns.
Seaside fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They breezed by Astoria on the road to the tune of 42-7. That's two games straight that Seaside has won by exactly 35 points.
Seaside found their leader in underclassman Ryder Jackson, who rushed for 238 yards and three touchdowns on only 14 carries. Jackson was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 60 yards. Another player making a difference was Kyler Mccleary, who gained 113 total yards and three touchdowns.
St. Helens' victory was their fourth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 5-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 39.0 points per game. As for Seaside, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season.
Things could have been worse for St. Helens, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 32-16 loss to Seaside in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. Can St. Helens avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
