The Ledford Panthers will challenge the Montgomery Central Timberwolves at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Ledford is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.1 runs per game this season.
Ledford proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by 14) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Central Davidson 5-3. The win continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won three in a row.
Leah Leonard spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on ten hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Nicola Simpson, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Cassidy Murray, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Montgomery Central lost 8-1 to North Moore on Wednesday. The Timberwolves have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Montgomery Central saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kylee Smith, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Ledford's victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Montgomery Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Ledford has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Montgomery Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Ledford took their win against Montgomery Central in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 12-1. Will Ledford repeat their success, or does Montgomery Central have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
