Schuylkill Haven saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aisley Jenan, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Marian Catholic made easy work of Wilson Area on Saturday and carried off a 12-1 victory. The result was nothing new for Marian Catholic, who have now won three matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.
Kayla Birrer spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on eight hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on DeAnna Pugh, who scored three runs while going 4-for-5. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Hailey Treskolasky also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Marian Catholic kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wilson Area only managed nine hits.
Schuylkill Haven's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 5-2. As for Marian Catholic, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Schuylkill Haven hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .318. However, it's not like Marian Catholic struggles in that department as they've averaged .384. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Schuylkill Haven came out on top in a nail-biter against Marian Catholic in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hurricanes since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
