On Thursday, the New Iberia Yellowjackets faced the Alexandria Trojans in a battle between two of the state's top teams. New Iberia sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 36-34 victory over Alexandria. The win was familiar territory for New Iberia who now have four in a row.
Alexandria lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Tyshawn Duncan, who scored seven points along with 11 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordyn Johnson, who scored ten points.
New Iberia has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season. As for Alexandria, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-5.
New Iberia and Mamou will face off at 5:15 p.m. on January 5th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Mamou will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Louisiana Rankings (they are ranked 298th, while New Iberia is ranked 18th). Alexandria and Rayne will face off at 2:45 p.m. on January 5th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Rayne is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
