It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Johnson Jaguars had no problem doing just that on Friday. They managed a 36-31 victory over New Braunfels. The victory was nothing new for Johnson as they're now sitting on four straight.
Leading Johnson to victory were Ty Hawkins and Lorenn "bubba" Johnson. Hawkins rushed for 97 yards, while Johnson gained 184 total yards. Johnson hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for ten straight games.
Loss or not, New Braunfels got some senior leadership from Leighton Adams who threw for 175 yards and two touchdowns while completing 78.6% of his passes and Lance Beeghley who picked up 87 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Beeghley was no stranger to the big play, lighting up the secondary with a catch that went for 63 yards.
Johnson has yet to lose a match at home this season, leaving them with a 10-1 record. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.3 points per game. As for New Braunfels, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-5.
Johnson will square off against Lake Travis at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Lake Travis presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Johnson in Texas (Lake Travis is ranked 20th, while Johnson is ranked 93rd). New Braunfels does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
