Northeastern is 9-1 against Winchester Community since August of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Northeastern Knights will head out on the road to face off against the Winchester Community Golden Falcons at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Northeastern focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up four on Friday.
Last Friday, Northeastern came up short against Hagerstown and fell 27-20. Northeastern gained 110 more yards on the day, but it was Hagerstown that made the best of use of them.
Even though the team lost, they still came through with several impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Eli Hemmelgarn, who picked up 102 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Logan White also helped out as he racked up 107 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, Winchester Community had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 40.7 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Union City 49-7 on the road. The result was nothing new for Winchester Community, who have now won six matches by 20 points or more so far this season.
Aidan Weatherhead continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 111 yards and five touchdowns on only 12 carries. Weatherhead is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last five games he's played. Caleb Hummel also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Northeastern's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-2. Winchester Community has been no stranger to the win column this season, as they've started out with wins in six of their first eight games, giving them a 6-2 record.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's matchup: Northeastern has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 195.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Winchester Community struggles in that department as they've been even better at 226.6 per game. It's looking like Friday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Northeastern was able to grind out a solid win over Winchester Community in their previous matchup back in September, winning 19-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for Northeastern since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
