The Youngker Roughriders will head out on the road to face off against the Notre Dame Prep Saints at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Thursday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Youngker beat Kofa 46-41. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Youngker.
Youngker's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ashlee Gonzalez, who scored 14 points along with nine rebounds and seven steals. Gonzalez hasn't dropped below two steals for seven straight games. Another player making a difference was Ytzel McClendon, who scored nine points along with 16 rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Notre Dame Prep can now show off 11 landslide victories after their most recent match on Friday. They took their contest on the road with ease, bagging a 67-18 win over Desert Mountain. The win was familiar territory for Notre Dame Prep who now have five in a row.
Notre Dame Prep's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ava Pautz led the charge by scoring 16 points along with seven assists and two steals. Lily Mccracken was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with five steals.
Youngker's win bumped their record up to 9-7. As for Notre Dame Prep, their victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-3.
Monday's game is shaping up to be a scrappy matchup: Youngker have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 30.7 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Notre Dame Prep, though, as they've been averaging only 33 rebounds per game. Given Youngker's sizeable advantage in that area, Notre Dame Prep will need to find a way to close that gap.
Youngker was dealt a bruising 69-29 defeat at the hands of Notre Dame Prep when the teams last played back in January of 2023.
