The La Lumiere Lakers will head out on the road to face off against the Westville Blackhawks at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. La Lumiere is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
La Lumiere took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 25-6 margin over South Bend Career Academy. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Lakers considering their one-run performance the contest before.
Sam Cleveland made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple.
In other batting news, La Lumiere got a massive performance out of Brady Monaghan, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That home run was Monaghan's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Josh Jaracz, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple.
La Lumiere always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .634. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Westville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They lost 13-3 to Kouts.
Jackson Pilarski was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI.
La Lumiere's record now sits at 3-4. As for Westville, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-7.
Tuesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. La Lumiere has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .433. However, it's not like Westville struggles in that department as they've averaged .436. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
La Lumiere couldn't quite finish off Westville in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 and fell 2-0. Can the Lakers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
