The Fruitport Trojans will venture away from home to square off against the Wyoming Wolves at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Fruitport's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last five games.
16 must be Fruitport's lucky number: they beat Comstock Park with that score not once but twice on Tuesday. The Trojans put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 16-0 win. The Trojans have beaten the Panthers the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Panthers has come to flipping the script.
Khloe Courtade was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Courtade was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Kalli Tawney was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Madyson Prout, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Fruitport was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .667. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .409 or higher in five consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Wyoming came up short against Thornapple Kellogg on Monday, falling 8-1. The Wolves haven't had much luck with the Trojans recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.
Wyoming saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Danika Rawls, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Fruitport pushed their record up to 12-1 with the victory, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Wyoming, their loss dropped their record down to 5-11.
Wyoming's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Fruitport has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.3 hits per game. It's a different story for Wyoming, though, as they've been averaging 9.1 hits. Given Fruitport's sizable advantage in that area, the Wolves will need to find a way to close that gap.
