The Gering Bulldogs scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They blew past Mitchell 83-61. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Mitchell lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Desmonde Smith, who almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine assists. Smith hasn't dropped below 15 points for three straight games. Waymond Banks was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with seven rebounds.
Gering's victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-12. As for Mitchell, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 13-9.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gering's road trip will continue as they head out to face McCook at 7:00 p.m. on February 9th. Gering is facing McCook at the right time seeing as McCook is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Mitchell, they will head out on the road to take on Kimball at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
