Mt. Carmel was not able to break out of their rough patch  on Tuesday as the team picked up their eighth straight  loss. They were dealt  a  98-67 defeat at the hands of the San Marcos Knights. While losing is never fun, the Sundevils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage  in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings  (they are ranked 726th, while the Knights are ranked 25th).

Despite the  loss, Mt. Carmel saw an underclassman step up: sophomore  Tyler Humphrey  dropped  a double-double on 23  points and 11  boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most  points  Humphrey has scored all season.  Kai Manning also deserves some recognition as  he  posted his first  block of the season.
 Even though they lost, Mt. Carmel was working as a unit and  finished the game with 17  assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their  assist total in three consecutive  matches.
 San Marcos got their  win on the backs of several key players, but it was  Richie Ramirez out in front who  went 8 of 14  on his way to 20 points along with seven  assists and seven  rebounds. Ramirez's evening made it nine games in a row in which  he has scored at least ten points.  Jalen Williams was another key player,  going 8 for 13  en route to 23  points in addition to six  boards and five  assists.
Mt. Carmel's defeat dropped their record down to 5-20. As for San Marcos, the  victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 22-3.
 Both  squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mt. Carmel will challenge Del Norte at 7:00  p.m.  on Friday. Mt. Carmel is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.8  points per game  this season. As for San Marcos, they will look to defend their home court  on Friday against Poway  at 7:00  p.m. San Marcos knows how to get  points on the board -- the  team has finished with 55 points or more in their past nine contests -- so hopefully Poway likes a good challenge.
