Herron hasn't had much luck against Speedway recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Achaeans will be playing at home against the Sparkplugs at 5:30 p.m. Herron is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.3 runs per game this season.
Herron made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Pike, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Achaeans were the clear victors by a 17-3 margin over the Red Devils on Wednesday. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.
The team relied heavily on Katherine Simcox, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. Elena Newsom was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one stolen base.
Herron was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Speedway scored first but ultimately less than North Putnam in their contest on Monday. They lost 11-5 to the Cougars.
Mallory Short was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Aria Graves, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Herron's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-3. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.3 runs over those games. As for Speedway, they now have a losing record of 1-2.
Speedway's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Herron has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .523. It's a different story for Speedway, though, as they've only averaged .324. Will they be able to contain Herron's hitters?
