The El Paso Tigers had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. Everything went their way against Irvin as El Paso made off with a 42-17 victory. Given El Paso's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 318th, while Irvin is ranked 1145th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading El Paso to victory were Natalia Thomas and Amaris Ambriz. Thomas scored 8 points along with 10 rebounds and 3 blocks, while Ambriz scored 11 points along with 5 rebounds and 5 steals. Thomas has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last ten times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jasmine Torres, who scored 8 points along with 4 steals.
El Paso is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-2 record this season. As for Irvin, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. El Paso is on the road again on Tuesday and play against Riverside at 7:30 p.m. on December 5th. Riverside is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. As for Irvin, they will head out on the road to face off against San Elizario at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
