Even though the Avella Eagles have not done well against the Western Beaver Golden Beavers recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Avella walked away with a 61-49 victory over Western Beaver. That's another feather in the cap for Avella, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Avella to victory, but perhaps none more so than Westley Burchianti, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 15 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryce Wright, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
When it comes to explaining why Western Beaver lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jackson Liller. Despite the final result, he scored 31 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Liller has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Carter Marshall, who scored ten points.
The win got Avella back to even at 9-9. As for Western Beaver, their loss dropped their record down to 4-15.
Avella will be playing at home against Rochester at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Rochester has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 257 points over their last four contests. As for Western Beaver, they will head out on the road to take on Carlynton at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Carlynton is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
