The Stephenville Yellow Jackets/Honeybees came tearing into Friday's matchup with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17.6 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against La Vega by a score of 23-14. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Stephenville also won the last time the pair played back in November of 2022.
Stephenville was led to victory by Tristian Gentry and Tate Maruska. Gentry picked up 112 receiving yards and a touchdown, while Maruska gained 155 total yards. Gentry was no stranger to the big play, connecting with a big catch that went for 66 yards. Diego Chavarria did his part by putting the 'special' in special teams, booting in three field goals and two extra points.
Stephenville's victory bumped their record up to 8-2. As for La Vega, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Stephenville will take on Western Hills at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Western Hills will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 915th, while Stephenville is ranked 68th). As for La Vega, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Dunbar at 7:00 p.m. Dunbar is looking to tack on another W to their five-game streak on the road.
