The Salem Quakers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They took a 55-37 bruising from Boardman. While losing is never fun, Salem can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 303rd, while Boardman is ranked 51st).
It was another big night for Mackenzie Riccitelli, who scored 19 points along with eight assists and eight rebounds for Boardman. Riccitelli has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. Sarah Bero was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 15 points and 13 rebounds.
Salem has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season. As for Boardman, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season.
Salem will head out on the road to take on Springfield at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Springfield focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 last Monday. As for Boardman, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Perry at 1:00 p.m. Boardman is coming into the contest with six straight wins at home, so Perry is out to stop a team with plenty of momentum.
