Softball Recap: Capital Takes a Loss

Capital had lost nine straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 3-15 to make it ten. They came up short against the Spring Valley Timberwolves, falling 17-6. The Cougars were not able to make up for their defeat to the Timberwolves from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Jadan Bishop made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last ten games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kathryn Crowder, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

As for Spring Valley, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-6. The result was nothing new for the Timberwolves, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.

On Spring Valley's side, Riley Hedrick made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits. What's more, Hedrick posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Layla Marshall was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Laykin Adkins also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Coming up, Capital will venture away from home to face off against St. Albans at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Spring Valley has already played their next matchup (against Raceland), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
