The Grafton Bearcats will face off against the Fairmont Senior Polar Bears at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Grafton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
Fairmont Senior will be up against a hot Grafton squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Bearcats' pitcher stepped up to hand Elkins a 7-0 shutout on Wednesday. The Bearcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by six runs or more this season.
Not much got past Lillie Crimm, who gave up just two hits and racked up 14 Ks to keep Elkins off the board. Crimm has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Ruth Horne was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Karigan Wildroudt was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Fairmont Senior ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against East Fairmont, sneaking past 5-4. The win continues a trend for the Polar Bears in their matchups with the Bees: they've now won five in a row.
Michaela Egidi made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched eight innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. Egidi was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Addison Stewart, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April.
Fairmont Senior kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Fairmont Senior's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-9. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.75 runs across that stretch. As for Grafton, their win bumped their record up to 14-6-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Grafton has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Fairmont Senior struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Grafton's way against Fairmont Senior when the teams last played back in March, as Grafton made off with a 15-0 victory. Do the Bearcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Polar Bears turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
