The Alexander Central Cougars pushed their score all the way to 57 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 67-57 to South Caldwell. Despite running the score up even higher than they did on Thursday (55), Alexander Central still had to take the loss.
Alexander Central's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chad Lasher, who scored 21 points along with nine rebounds. The game was Lasher's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayon Connor, who scored 19 points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Alexander Central has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season. As for South Caldwell, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Alexander Central will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Ashe County at 8:30 p.m. on January 12, 2024. South Caldwell is on the road again on Friday and play against McDowell at 8:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024.
