Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for The McCormick Chiefs, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They were dealt a 47-20 loss at the hands of Blackville-Hilda on Friday. While losing is never fun, McCormick can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 201st, while Blackville-Hilda is ranked 95th).
Blackville-Hilda's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jaquel Holman led the charge by rushing for 140 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.8 yards per carry, and also picking up 38 receiving yards. Holman was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 50 yards. Tamari (td) daniels was another key contributor, gaining 124 total yards and two touchdowns.
This is the second loss in a row for McCormick and nudges their season record down to 3-8. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 16.0 points per game. As for Blackville-Hilda, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season.
McCormick does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Blackville-Hilda will take on Wagener-Salley at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Wagener-Salley is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
