Softball Recap: Havana's Winning Streak Snapped at Four Games

After a string of four wins, Havana's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell 4-1 to the Illini Bluffs Tigers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Ducks of the 14-2 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Maddie Howerter spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.

Havana's defeat dropped their record down to 16-3-1. As for Illini Bluffs, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season.

Havana will head out to square off against Brown County at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Hornets have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.36 runs per game on average), something the Ducks will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Illini Bluffs, they will face off against Galesburg at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Tigers are facing the Silver Streaks at the right time seeing as the Silver Streaks are stuck on a 26-game losing streak.
