Baseball Recap: Green Valley Triumphs

Green Valley lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Southeast Career Tech, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's game. The Green Valley Gators were the clear victor by a 9-2 margin over the Southeast Career Tech Roadrunners on Friday. For the Gators, this counts as revenge for the 2-0 win the Roadrunners walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2024.

Jet McNelis made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only a hit over five innings pitched. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in February of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in stolen bases.

In other pitching news, Karson Tait looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit.

Back at the plate, Green Valley let Joseph Lusch and Caden Kirby run wild. Lusch scored two runs while going 2-for-3, while Kirby scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases Kirby has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Alba, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

Green Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southeast Career Tech only posted an OBP of .241.

Green Valley's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Southeast Career Tech, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Looking ahead, Green Valley will challenge Del Sol at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Southeast Career Tech, they will be taking part in a tournament against Foothill at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Foothill will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Southeast Career Tech surely won't give up without a fight.
