Iroquois West was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Oakwood Comets. Rylan Pheifer was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. What's more, he gave up only three walks, the fewest he's had since back in May of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Pheifer wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Julian Melgoza, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That double marked the first that Melgoza hit this season.
Iroquois West now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Oakwood, their record now sits at 6-8.
