Baseball Recap: Liberty Tech Magnet Takes a Loss

Liberty Tech Magnet extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 2-13 in the process. They lost 18-4 to the Greenfield Yellowjackets. If the Crusaders were looking for revenge after losing 11-1 to the Yellowjackets when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Ethan Scwheer was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and two doubles.

As for Greenfield, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 15 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games.

On Greenfield's side, Will Edwards was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Edwards has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one double and one RBI.

In other pitching news, Trey Morris looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four).

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Easton Sullivan, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Baylor Vujicic, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs.

Looking ahead, Liberty Tech Magnet will host West Carroll at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Greenfield, they will head out to challenge Madison at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Yellowjackets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season.
