The Mansfield Hornets are taking a road trip to take on the Taunton Tigers at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. Mansfield's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so Taunton's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Mansfield proved they can win big on Monday (they won by eight) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won by a run and slipped past Foxborough 4-3. The Hornets haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Luke Rogan made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. He is becoming a predictor of Mansfield's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 3-1 (and 4-5 when he doesn't). Rogan was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Brendan Vokey was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs. Mansfield is undefeated when Vokey posts two or more runs, but 4-6 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Kucharski, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for Taunton's offense. They fell just short of King Philip Regional by a score of 2-0 on Wednesday. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Tigers' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Taunton saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cam Dorr, who went 1-for-3 with one double.
Taunton has also been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-3 record this season. As for Mansfield, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Mansfield has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Taunton struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Mansfield suffered a grim 12-2 defeat to Taunton in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Hornets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
