Baseball Recap: River Valley Sets Scoring Season-High Against Highland Prep

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask River Valley). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Highland Prep Honey Badgers a 19-0 shutout on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Dust Devils, who have now won six matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

The team relied heavily on Mickey Gonzalez, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Hunter Koehler was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.

River Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .750. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Highland Prep only posted an OBP of .143.

River Valley is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-4-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Highland Prep, they dropped their record down to 0-10 with the defeat, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.
