After losing to the Southmont Mounties the last time they met, the Covington Trojans decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Covington enjoyed a cozy 66-51 victory over Southmont on Saturday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Covington.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Covington to victory, but perhaps none more so than Austin Stein, who scored 19 points along with four steals. Another player making a difference was Coye Ferguson, who scored 17 points along with nine rebounds and three blocks.
When it comes to explaining why Southmont lost, one person who can't be blamed is Vince Reimondo. Despite the final result, he scored 18 points along with six rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Reimondo has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Watson, who scored 13 points.
The win got Covington back to even at 9-9. As for Southmont, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-6.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Covington and Fountain Central will face off at 7:30 p.m. on February 1st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Fountain Central focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Saturday. As for Southmont, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against North Putnam at 7:30 p.m. North Putnam will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
