American Fork is on a four-game streak of home wins, while Skyridge is on a ten-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The American Fork Cavemen will take on the Skyridge Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Friday, American Fork humbled Westlake with a 38-7 victory. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 28-0.
American Fork's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dylan Story, who threw for 241 yards and three touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Jacob Eardley, who rushed for 111 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Skyridge faced Pleasant Grove in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Skyridge fell just short of Pleasant Grove by a score of 34-31. Despite 226 more yards than Pleasant Grove, Skyridge couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.
The match pitted two dominant signal callers against one another in Jackson Stevens and Carson Rasmussen. Rasmussen had a great game on Friday and threw for 286 yards and four touchdowns while completing 73.3% of his passes. Meanwhile, Stevens was balling out in the loss, throwing for 382 yards and three touchdowns.
Even if they lost, Skyridge's defensive line still kept up the pressure with seven sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Deshawn Toilolo and Iakopo Malufau who racked up 5.5 sacks between them.
American Fork has been no stranger to the win column this season, as they've started out with wins in eight of their first nine contests, giving them a 8-1 record. Having lost for the first time this season, Skyridge fell to 8-1.
We should be in store for an exciting game Friday as both teams have no problem gaining yardage. American Fork has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 363.6 total yards per game. However, it's not like Skyridge struggles in that department as they've been even better at 480.4 per game. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.
American Fork took a serious blow against Skyridge in their previous matchup back in October of 2022, falling 37-0. Will American Fork have more luck at home instead of on the road?
