The Gray Stone Day Knights's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight defeat. They suffered a tough 68-44 loss at the hands of North Stanly. While losing is never fun, Gray Stone Day can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 439th, while North Stanly is ranked 159th).
It was another big night for Shalyn Bell, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 16 rebounds for North Stanly. Bell is crushing the point category: she's posted at least 16 every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Giavonna Dunlap, who scored 17 points along with five steals.
Gray Stone Day has not been sharp recently as the team's lost seven of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season. As for North Stanly, their victory bumped their record up to 15-3.
Gray Stone Day will head out on the road to square off against Union Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Union Academy is coming into the matchup with four straight defeats at home, so Gray Stone Day is out to stop a team with plenty of momentum. North Stanly will take on South Stanly at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. North Stanly is facing South Stanly at the right time seeing as South Stanly is stuck on a 16-game losing streak.
