On Monday, Phoenix came up short against Southern Lab and fell 39-29. While losing is never fun, Phoenix can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 189th, while Southern Lab is ranked 16th).
Several Spartans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jamiya Addison, who scored nine points.
Phoenix has not been sharp recently as the team's lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 14-17 record this season. As for Southern Lab, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 15 of their last 17 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 22-7 record this season.
Phoenix will be playing at home against First Baptist Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. First Baptist Christian comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 18 points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for Southern Lab, they will head out on the road to take on Thrive Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing isn't great for Thrive Academy: they have been struggling with five straight losses at home, while Southern Lab has snatched up five consecutive wins on the road.
