The Fernandina Beach Pirates''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They suffered a tough 28-6 defeat at the hands of Baker County. While losing is never fun, Fernandina Beach can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 303rd, while Baker County is ranked 150th).
Leading Baker County to victory were Hudson Register and Benny Lewis. Register rushed for 140 yards and a touchdown on only 14 carries, while Lewis rushed for 167 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.3 yards per carry. Lewis was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 68 yards.
Fernandina Beach has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season. As for Baker County, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-3.
Fernandina Beach will head out on the road to face off against Middleburg at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Baker County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
