Basketball Recap: Montgomery Central Takes a Loss

Montgomery Central was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 33rd straight defeat dating back to last season. They were dealt a 93-47 loss at the hands of the Oak Grove Grizzlies. While losing is never fun, the Timberwolves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 634th, while the Grizzlies are ranked 164th).

Several Timberwolves players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Brady Fowler, who posted 11 points. What's more, Fowler also racked up four assists, the most he's had since back in December of 2024. Christopher Curtis was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with nine points and 13 boards.

Oak Grove's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Tristan Nunez, who went 7 of 14 to rack up 23 points and five steals. Nick Shamblen also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Montgomery Central's defeat dropped their record down to 0-20. As for Oak Grove, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season.

Looking ahead, Montgomery Central will face off against Asheboro at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Asheboro knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Montgomery Central likes a good challenge. As for Oak Grove, they will challenge Central Davidson at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Central Davidson is on a six-game streak of home wins, Oak Grove a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
