Taft has gone 8-2 against Marshall recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Raiders will challenge the Rams at 5:00 p.m. Taft's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Marshall's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Taft is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering O'Connor just ended the team's 11-game winning streak on Tuesday. They lost 10-0 to the Panthers. The shutout was out of character for the Raiders seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in February.
Meanwhile, Marshall beat Stevens 13-10 on Tuesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Rams.
Lexi Gonzalez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Madeline Puente was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2025. Kaitlyn Bermea was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple.
Marshall kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 3.4 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 10.6.
Marshall's record is now 4-6. As for Taft, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 14-6.
Marshall's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Taft has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Marshall, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 2.4 strikeouts. Will Taft keep running through batters, or will the Rams buck the trend?
Taft came out on top in a nail-biter against Marshall when the teams last played back in February, sneaking past 4-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Raiders since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
