The St. Francis Knights are ranked highly in their home state, and on Monday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of the Montverde Academy Eagles. St. Francis took a hard 61-45 fall against Montverde Academy. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points St. Francis has scored all season.
St. Francis lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Sa'Mya Wyatt, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds. The matchup was Wyatt's 11th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Giaunni Rogers, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds.
Montverde Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Vivian Iwuchukwu led the charge by scoring 15 points along with nine rebounds. Iwuchukwu has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times she's played. Jaloni Cambridge was another key contributor, scoring six points along with 12 assists and seven rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for St. Francis and nudges their season record down to 9-2. As for Montverde Academy, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 7-0.
St. Francis' road trip will continue as they head out to face Folsom on December 19th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in their respective states (Folsom is ranked seventh in California, while St. Francis is ranked eighth in Georgia). Montverde Academy won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Bishop McNamara at 1:30 p.m. on December 19th.
